Developer Diary: What is Flummaxed?
16 September 2002

The last entry was a little sentimental, so its time to provide some real information about what's going on with Flummaxed and how we plan to do it.

The game play of Flummaxed is split into 6 areas, full of puzzles, characters and intrigue, which ultimately lead on to the next area. You can't go back to the previous area, but you'll never need to. Gone are the days where a decision made at the start of an adventure game results in you dying just before you reach the end.

As you may have read, Flummaxed is being built using Game Studio, our adventure game development system. It's available elsewhere on this site. Because of the long production time, I plan to have Game Studio significantly upgraded by the time Flummaxed is ready - don't let Game Studio's current capabilities fool you. I am continually adding new features to handle Flummaxed.

As for the art, progress is slow, but the game is staffed by volunteers and every moment they contribute to the game is appreciated. Soon, character concepts will be available on the site for you to have a peruse at. I can tell you that there is a male and female lead; Max, the main character, and Alexis, a member of an underground organisation who helps Max untangle the web he is in and gets caught herself. I hope one day to make Alexis a star in her own game.

The last task underway is the character auditions. They will be held in the last week of September with recording commencing in December. Anyone who lives in the Melbourne area and is interested in being a part of Flummaxed, should email us ASAP.

Catch ya soon.
